As millions of Americans prepare for Thanksgiving travel, AAA estimated more than 50 million people will travel more than 50 miles for holiday visits.Before you hit the road, AAA Bob Sumerel Tire and Service recommends you check your car to protect yourself and your wallet from damage down the road.Hyde Park Manager Larry Patterson recommends people have their cars checked, especially if they have their tire pressure check light come on. Colder weather causes tire molecules to shrink. Patterson said his shop is seeing a week-by-week increase in people coming in needing their tires and batteries checked, especially before a holiday road trip. Patterson also recommends people check their breaks and wipers as well.”You see a lot of things like the wipers starting to freeze over,” Patterson said of winter’s effect on vehicles. “So having a really good set of wipers on the vehicle is important. Having your cooling fluid exchange done this time of year. You want to make sure your cooling system, your oil change, anything like that, they can prevent you from being stuck on the side of a road.”Patterson also recommends people check the oil and tread of their tires before heading out to Thanksgiving dinner.
