SIOUX FALLS – Steady play led to two wins for Post 8 Baseball Thursday at Harmodon Park. The Eights defeated Spearfish 6-3 and Sioux Falls West 8-3.
Jack Merkwan capped a three-run first inning in the victory over Spearfish with a two-run inside-the-park home run. Merkwan later had a sacrifice fly. George Stalley had an RBI single and Lincoln Kienholz hit a run-scoring triple. Issac Polak allowed just one hit and struck out eight in three and two-thirds innings for the win.
Post 8 (5-5) trailed 2-0 to Sioux Falls West before scoring three runs in the fourth. One scored on a wild pitch, then Gary Nedved gave the Eights the lead with a two-run single. After Sioux Falls West tied the game in the home fourth, a Merkwan sacrifice fly in the fifth put Post 8 back into the lead. In a three run sixth, Kienholz and Stalley both walked with the bases loaded, then Brecken Krueger had an RBI single. Another run scored on an error in the seventh. Kienholz pitched three and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief for the win.
