INDIANAPOLIS — A portion of 82nd Street in Indianapolis will be shut down next week.
According to a press release from the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, 82nd Street will be closed between Craig Street and Castleton Road from April 7-15, barring any weather-related delays.
The closure will allow DPW crews to continue working the Nickel Plate Trail project — a $14.9 million initiative designed to transform the old Nickel Plate Railroad into a multi-use trail that will run from the Indiana State Fairgrounds to Hamilton County.
Indy DPW will post a detour to help drivers get around the week-long closure of 82nd Street between Craig Street and Castleton Road. The detour will involve Intestate 69, 96th Street and Allisonville Road.
Indy DPW provided the following display of the detour in its press release:
The Nickel Plate Trail project is expected to be completed later this year. Crews began Nickel Plate Trail construction in 2023.
