It would appear that opposition to the building of Axon’s new global headquarters in Scottsdale is limited to a small coalition of anti-growth and anti-capitalist activists.

At least that is the case according to a new poll that shows that Arizona voters overwhelmingly support Axon’s proposed project and legislation to boost economic development through campus-based housing, and that includes voters in Scottsdale.

According to a Cygnal poll of likely general election voters, three-in-four (75%) of Arizona voters—including 79% of Republicans, 76% of Independents, and 71% of Democrats—support Axon building its headquarters in their community. A strong majority of Scottsdale voters (65%) also support the project.

Support is similarly strong for a bill, SB1543, which would allow companies developing international headquarters in Arizona to build housing and hotels on their campuses. Statewide, 59% of voters support SB1543. In Scottsdale, 56% of voters support the proposal, with just 35% opposed.

“Arizona voters across the political spectrum are sending a clear message: We want high-quality jobs, we want smart economic growth, and we want to keep homegrown innovators like Axon right here in Arizona,” said Danny Seiden, president and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry. “SB1543 empowers companies that invest in Arizona to do even more to support their workers and communities—and voters are clearly behind that vision.”

When provided additional context on the Axon campus project—which includes plans for restaurants, a hotel, and entertainment venues, along with an estimated $38 billion economic impact over 10 years—statewide support climbs to 64%, and remains solid at 60% in Scottsdale, with only 27% opposed locally.

The poll also shows voters pushing back against efforts to derail the project. A California-based union is attempting to overturn the city’s approval of the Axon campus through a public referendum. That move is opposed by 52% of voters statewide, including 60% of Republicans, 36% of Democrats, and 48% of union members. In Scottsdale, opposition rises to 63%, with nearly half saying they “strongly oppose” the interference.

Once voters are fully informed about Axon’s role as a homegrown technology leader and its plans to bring more than 5,000 high-paying jobs to Arizona, favorable views of the company rise to 67% statewide and 68% in Scottsdale. This includes 70% of Trump 2024 voters who support the project. Similarly, more than three-in-four union members (78%) support Axon building its headquarters in Arizona.

“This is a defining economic development issue for our state,” said Seiden. “Policymakers who listen to voters will recognize the opportunity and the clear mandate to keep innovation, jobs, investment—and a $50 billion homegrown success story like Axon—right here in the Valley.”
