PLAINFIELD, Ind. — Police are searching for a man who allegedly instigated a deadly chase in Plainfield.
According to a press release, 38-year-old Bryan Goodmon of Fillmore may have been involved in an altercation with a Plainfield Police Department officer at the Long John Silver’s restaurant located on Clarks Creek Road.
Per the Avon Police Department — the agency tasked with investigating the incident — Goodmon was impaired and sitting inside a vehicle at the restaurant. When police approached him at the Long John Silver’s, Goodmon allegedly refused to comply with an officer’s order and fled the scene.
APD reported that, when Goodmon left the scene, he nearly struck a PPD officer with his vehicle. After Goodmon took off, a Plainfield officer initiated a police pursuit.
The chase ultimately ended when the PPD officer involved struck a 2009 Ford Fusion at the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and Smith Road. An elderly couple — 78-year-old Barbara Williams and 79-year-old Bennie Williams — died during the crash.
The PPD officer involved in the crash was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. That officer, a five-year veteran, was placed on administrative leave after the chase.
At the time of the crash, PPD reported that it had found the vehicle the suspect fled the Long John Silver’s in. The car, however, was unoccupied when they located it.
In an interview with FOX59 and CBS4’s Russ McQuaid, one witness claimed he did not see any flashing lights coming from the police car at the time of the crash. APD reported that the officer involved in the fatal pursuit had activated his emergency lights and sirens.
Investigators reported that they interviewed approximately 20 witnesses. Those interviews helped police identify Goodmon.
A warrant has been issued for Goodmon’s arrest. He is wanted for resisting law enforcement causing death.
Per APD, Goodmon also has active warrants in Marion County. According to Indiana’s public court reporting system, Goodmon’s Marion County warrants are related to the following charges:
- Unlawful possession of a syringe
- Driving while suspended with a prior conviction in the last 10 years
- Knowingly or intentionally operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license
- Possession of paraphernalia
Police consider Goodmon to be a career criminal. Law enforcement also believes he should be considered dangerous and potentially armed. Per a release, Goodmon is a 6-foot-1, 265-pound man.

Police are still working on a complete crash report for the incident. APD indicated that it will make the report available to the public at a later time.
Investigators conducted toxicology tests on the drivers involved in the fatal crash, though at this time, drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
