A suspected impaired driver was arrested early Saturday morning following a fiery two-car crash that left a Las Vegas resident dead in the Spring Valley area, according to Metro Police.

Yonas Nera, 19, was driving a sedan “at a high rate of speed” westbound on Flamingo Road near Lindell Road about 3:45 a.m. The victim was traveling in a sedan eastbound on Flamingo and making a left turn when the car Nera was driving struck the right side of their vehicle.

Both cars caught fire, police said. Nera exited his car, however the victim was unable to escape theirs, which was engulfed in flames.

The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nera, who remained at the scene, showed signs of impairment and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center accordingly, police said. They said he sustained serious injuries.

The collision remains under investigation.
