On Sunday evening, Illinois State Police identified the adult victims of a fatal crash that took place in the early morning on Interstate 90 near Hampshire.
Lauren Dobosz, a 31-year-old woman from Rolling Meadows, died along with five children between the ages of 5 and 13 years old when the Chevrolet van they were riding in was struck by a gray Acura TSX sedan, engulfing both vehicles in flames, police said Sunday evening.
Police did not identify the five children by name, but said they included two 13-year-old girls, a 7-year-old boy, a 6-year-old boy, and a 5-year-old girl, all of Rolling Meadows.
The van’s driver, Thomas Dobosz, 32, of Rolling Meadows, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Lauren Dobosz and the children died at the scene, police said.
Jennifer Fernandez, 22, of Carpentersville, also died at the scene, police said.
Fernandez was driving the Acura car in the wrong direction, heading east in the westbound lanes of I-90, near milepost 33.5, police said Sunday evening.
The car struck the van head-on, and both vehicles burst into flames. Thomas Dobosz was airlifted to the hospital, police said.
Troopers responded at 2:11 a.m. and closed off the west lanes of I-90 near the crash. The highway reopened at 9:25 a.m. Sunday.
No additional information was available Sunday evening, police said. Check back for updates.
