SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A concert meant to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center won’t be happening.
Popstar Pink was scheduled to perform in Sioux Falls in October, but that show along with concerts in Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisconsin were postponed.
Now, they’ve been canceled.
Officials in Sioux Falls made the highly-anticipated concert announcement in February.
Pink would bring her high-energy performance to Sioux Falls on a Monday night.
“So I would already put Tuesday morning on your calendar and ask for that off because we want to you to have fun on that Monday night,” Mayor Paul TenHaken said in February.
The venue’s general manager explained to KELOLAND News that booking the act took a lot of heavy lifting.
“It is a nine-month cycle of hard work, a lot of fist wrangling and calling in favors and everything like that to make this happen,” PREMIER Center General Manager Mike Krewson said in February.
Ahead of the concert, the street in front of the PREMIER Center temporarily turned into P!NK Place.
The concert was then postponed just days before Pink was set to take the stage.
Now, it’s canceled.
“For the last couple of months, I have been performing with a torn bicep and two torn meniscus,” P!NK said in an Instagram video.
The performer apologized to the fans.
“I am so, so deeply sorry that I will not be able to make those shows up,” P!NK said in an Instagram video.
In a Facebook post, the PREMIER Center said it was “heartbroken” and explained ticketholders will be refunded.
KELOLAND News reached out to the Mayor’s office and the general manager of the PREMIER Center Friday, but they were not available for interviews.
The GM did tell us there’s currently no signature concert or event designed for the celebration.
