At an Emergency Session Meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors declared a State of Emergency related to storm damage and power outages in Eloy, Arizona City, and surrounding areas.

The storm on Sunday evening knocked out power for around ten thousand residents, leaving many vulnerable in the searing Arizona heat. Pinal County quickly activated its Emergency Operations Center, which has and continues to work collaboratively with the City of Eloy, APS, and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office to provide cooling centers, ice distribution centers, and overnight shelters for those who have needed support.

Declaring a State of Emergency is a procedure that allows the County and the City to access additional resources and support from the State of Arizona. The City of Eloy had declared a State of Emergency yesterday.

According to APS, power should be fully restored by 8 pm this evening, but residents face returning to homes with their food supplies spoiled by lack of refrigeration or cooling within the residence.
