pima democrat tweet

In a since-deleted tweet, Pima County Democrats attacked a victim of the California fires that continue to displace thousands of people, leaving them homeless.

On January 8, the Pima County Democratic Party twitter account attacked California resident Wes Nichols (@wesnichols) in response to his tweet regarding the destruction of Pacific Palisades.

“I just left the hellscape formerly know as Pacific Palisades where I’ve lived for 26 years,” tweeted Nichols. “I’m mad at what I saw. Our politicians have failed us. Unprepared, unimaginative, understaffed, now overwhelmed. Heads must roll for this disaster. I personally saw 100+ homes fully engulfed. @RickCarusoLA  just mentioned water wasn’t working in the fire hydrants- WTF?!   (I took this video around Pali High. Total destruction. )”

The @PimaDems account responded, “maybe pay your taxes and maybe local govs wouldn’t be so understaffed.”

California and Los Angeles both have among the nation’s highest tax rates.  California has the highest individual income tax burden and the 5th highest overall tax burden of any state in the country, according to WalletHubLos Angeles County has one of the highest median property taxes in the United States and Los Angeles has the 11th highest sales tax of any US city.

Immediately, the Pima County Republican Party responded, “THIS extraordinary lack of compassion combined with a childish understanding of a devastating situation could only come from the far left.”

“Pima County Dems are the literal worst. Remember their f*** the 4th of July party?” responded one follower referring to a tweet from the @PimaDems in 2022. In that tweet, the @PimaDems wrote, “F*ck the Fourth. See you at Reid Park,” with an image calling for members to “mourn with Fuck the Fourth.” On its Facebook page, the group told friends: “July 4th. We are not celebrating until we get our independence back.”

The Party removed those messages as well and Democrat candidates made no mention of it, in the hope the issue would blow over. It never really did and continues to haunt the group with every social media faux pas.

It is unclear why the group chose to go after the @wesnichols. The owner of the account, a partner the investment group March Capital, has made no recent posts complaining about paying taxes or claiming to avoid them. However, it appears that he may have been confused with another Wes Nichols in California who “currently serves as Founder & CEO of Paramount Property Tax Appeal. That Nichols’ consulting firm concentrates “on property and business tax reduction,” according to the company’s website.

@stevenson408 replied to the @wesnichols account, “Don’t you actively work on reducing property taxes (which pay for those fire fighters),” while sharing a photo of Nichols with the Paramount Property Tax Appeal firm.

“Not only did these nimrods attack a victim of the fires,” one Pima County Republican activist told the Arizona Daily Independent. “They got him confused with another guy. Hate is a horrible thing, but it is worse when you are a complete f%$#trd.”

According to NBC News, “at least 13 people have died as a result of the wildfires blazing through Southern California… Six were killed in the Eaton Fire and five in the Palisades Fire, but the numbers were expected to rise. Another 13 people are missing in L.A. County since the fires started, said Sheriff Robert Luna.”

As of Saturday afternoon, the massive Eaton Fire and the Palisades Fire continued burning in Southern California days after erupting amid a powerful windstorm. The Palisades Fire has forced new evacuations as it moves toward the 405, threatening homes in Brentwood and Mandeville Canyon, according to  Eyewitness News.

Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass, both Democrats, have been called on to resign, amid accusations that they have failed to protect residents, given that there was advanced warning of hazardous fire conditions.
