Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating the death of a 5-year-old male who drowned in an apartment complex pool.

According to the department, officers were called to the area of 30th Street and Osborn Road at about 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon about a child drowning in the apartment complex pool. The child was pulled from the pool before first responders arrived on scene.

Firefighters took over CPR from a bystander and started advanced life saving measures.

The child was transported to a local hospital where he did not survive. There is no estimate of how long the child was in the pool.

Phoenix police detectives responded to investigate the incident. The details of how the child got into the pool and the circumstances surrounding the drowning remain under investigation.
