Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a home invasion that ultimately cost one suspect his life and landed another in jail.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on December 16, 2024, around 1:15 a.m., officers responded to the area of 5800 South 54th Lane regarding a shooting. As officers were responding, they learned that multiple suspects forced entry into a home and exchanged gunfire with an occupant of the residence.
One of these suspects was shot and was on the ground outside of the home. When officers arrived, they located an adult male, identified as 28-year-old, Carlos Pardo Espericueta, with at least one gunshot wound. Pardo Espericueta was transported to a nearby hospital and was listed in critical condition.
Detectives responded to assume the investigation. Investigators confirmed that multiple suspects forced entry into a home with multiple victims inside. Several of the suspects were armed as they entered the home. When the suspects were inside the home, one of the victims armed themselves and exchanged gunfire with the suspects. This is when Pardo Espericueta, who is one of the suspects, was shot. The remaining suspects took off from the area on foot. None of the victims inside the home were significantly injured during this incident.
Detectives identified as 19-year-old Michael Valles as one of the suspects. Later that day, Valdes contacted investigators and self-surrendered to police. Valdes was booked on various charges stemming from the investigation.
On December 27, 2024, suspect Carlos Pardo Espericueta died from his injuries while still in the hospital.
On January 2, 2025, suspect Michael Valles was rebooked on first degree murder charges due to the death of Pardo Espericueta.
Detectives believe that there are multiple outstanding suspects related to this incident and the investigation remains ongoing.
