Beloved Philly restaurant Middle Child opened a new location at the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) this week. It’s the second location of Middle Child’s sit-down restaurant Middle Child Clubhouse, a Fishtown full-service offshoot of the sandwich shop Middle Child that first opened in Midtown Village.
The catch? This outpost of Middle Child Clubhouse is found in the brand-new Chase Sapphire Lounge by the Club, which means it’s only open to people who have the credit card.
Middle Child Clubhouse’s airport location serves up its famous breakfast and lunch menus. There are, of course, sandwiches, as well as eggy breakfast burritos, and other items. And, like the restaurant’s other locations, the cafe lounge serves up coffee by Philadelphia roasting company Elixr Coffee.
This is Chase’s first lounge in the Philadelphia International Airport, located in the Terminal D and E connector. It debuted on Thursday, February 20. It’s one of several measures Northeast airports are taking to level up their dining options at lounges with chef collaborations.
Elsewhere at PHL, the lounge offers wines, cocktails, and a beer garden with taps from local Pennsylvanian breweries. The lounge is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
When it first launched, Matt Cahn took his inspiration from Philadelphia’s Italian sandwich shops, Jewish delis, and Greek diners. He previously worked at New York restaurants Superiority Burger and Court Street Grocers before going back home to open Middle Child in Midtown Village in 2017. Then the team expanded with the larger Middle Child Clubhouse in Fishtown in 2021. In January, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Philly restaurant group had lost a lawsuit that intended to block a Vegas restaurant from using the same name.
