PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — Today, State Senator and nominee for Congress Brad Pfaff traveled to Prairie du Chien to host a press conference with Congressman Mark Pocan to discuss Derrick Van Orden’s character in light of his harassment of an LGBTQ librarian page over a gay pride display last year.
“This incident confirms that Derrick lacks the temperament, character, and judgment necessary to be a Member of Congress,” said Brad Pfaff. “Everyone should be able to feel safe in their workplace, no matter where that is or who they are, and we need elected leaders who feel the same. Last year, Derrick told an employee trying to defuse the situation ‘you don’t have a voice’ — I’m running to give western Wisconsin the voice it deserves.”
“As a member of the LGBT community, I find Derrick’s actions a little more than a year ago to be shocking and shameful,” said Congressman Mark Pocan. “Serving in Washington means being a leader and a voice for your constituents, not attacking them for who they are and who they love. This November, voters should choose Brad because he embodies western Wisconsin values and has demonstrated the character and temperament worthy of representing Wisconsinites in Congress.”
This election is about bringing western Wisconsin values to Congress, not attacking the very constituents Derrick seeks to serve. Brad Pfaff is a proud son of the rolling hills, coulees, and valleys of northern La Crosse County, and his homegrown values are exactly what Wisconsinites need in Washington.
