RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) — The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office is having a first ever warrant holiday this upcoming Monday.

This event on Monday will waive all warrant fees a person might have if that person turns themselves in.

“…we know that the holidays can be expensive, it’s already stressful. We want people to start the year on a clean slate, not have this hanging over their heads. So if they come and report to the public safety building at 300 Kansas City Street at 7 a.m. on Monday we can get them processed,” PCSO Warrants Captain Chris Hislip said.

This will waive all fees accrued and will get people in front of a judge by 10 a.m.

Individuals that stop by the public safety building Monday morning to get their warrant fees waived can do so with any situation they’ve been involved in, as little as a traffic violation or a city ordinance complaint. These also include any misdemeanors someone might have.

You will need to be at the window at 7 a.m. to take advantage of this offer.

“You know, potentially take one day off instead of getting pulled over or getting arrested you know and taken to jail. So this helps them to avoid jail for almost all warrants and we would waive those fees and then they can get the process going with the court system,” Hislip said.

This is for all kinds of warrants, however, those with more serious offenses will be processed at the jail.

You can check if you have an outstanding warrant online here.
