MANILA, Philippines—Barangay Ginebra head coach Tim Cone is convinced the Gin Kings got a hidden gem in Jayson David in the PBA Rookie Draft last May 15.
David, who suited up for the Lyceum Pirates in college before playing for Ginebra’s 3×3 team, was selected in the second round as the 20th overall pick by the Kings.
“We jumped on him right away. I’m really high on him. We knew him well from the 3×3. Coach Kirk (Collier) talks highly of him,” said Cone, as per the PBA website.
“He plays a lot of different positions, point guard, off guard, the three position. I’m excited about Jayson as well,” Cone added.”I think he’s kind of going to be the secret steal of the draft. We’re happy about him.”
David made a good account of himself during his stint with Ginebra in the 3×3 competition.
Aside from David, Ginebra also picked Javi Gomez de Liano eighth overall in the draft. Gomez de Liano, however, was then traded by the Kings to the Terrafirma Dyip for second overall pick Jeremiah Gray.
