The world champion and world record holder managed a best of 2.00 metres to win on countback from Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers. After labouring through his heat with a sluggish start, Lyles was again slowest off the blocks in the semi-final, coming second behind Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, who clocked a season’s best 9.81sec. The shock 100m winner in Tokyo, Italy’s Marcell Jacobs, also scraped through to the final at 1950GMT, where Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson will start as fastest qualifier after notching 9.80sec.
