It’s probably no surprise that homemade ice cream is one of our favorite treats at Kitchn. We actually realized many of us have the same or similar ice cream makers from Cuisinart, and with good reason! They churn out quality products time and time again with little time or fuss, even if you aren’t a skilled Ben or Jerry. And as luck would have it, Macy’s sensed our upcoming urge and put one of our favorite models on sale as part of their ongoing Spring sale! Through March 21, the Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet & Ice Cream Maker is only $69.99 (normally $89.99), which is a sure sign it’s time to brush up on your ice cream skills and get ready to churn through all that warm, glorious weather.

Why so many Cuisinart fans, you may wonder? Simply put, regardless of your ice cream-making level of expertise, the Cuisinart makes it easy as can be. The freezer bowl, paddle, and easy-lock lid pop right into place, you pour the ice cream base into the top and you click the “on” button. That’s it! In 20 minutes or less, you have tasty soft serve. You can start with a simple sorbet, try your hand at dairy-free ice cream, or go with a more advanced frozen yogurt or ice cream recipe. No matter what you decide, the non-slip feet will keep the machine in place, and the large spout opening will ensure you don’t spill a drop of that sugary goodness.

Food Editor Kelli Foster loves this model because “it’s reliable, not too noisy, and I feel like it’s pretty well-priced — compared to others on the market — without sacrificing quality.” I, too, have this ice cream maker and couldn’t agree more. After breaking three models from other brands in short succession, I got myself this Cuisinart about a year ago, and it churns out consistent products every time. I admit I didn’t want to spend too much given how many makers I’ve broken, and I’m glad I didn’t! Why splurge when the affordable option gives you exactly what you want? And let’s be honest, I don’t have the space for a larger model. This Cuisinart is relatively compact, less than ten inches wide, yet churns a standard size recipe with its 1.5-quart capacity.

Besides choosing your recipe, the only thing you have to pre-plan in advance is popping the double-insulated bowl in the freezer the night before you churn. Given that most ice cream base recipes require time to chill anyway, it’s really not such a tough task! During the summer, once I’m done with one batch, I quickly handwash the bowl and pop it in the freezer to keep it on rotation. Plus, I just discovered it can also make frosty adult beverages.
