PIERRE – A five-run fourth inning was the difference for the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs Friday in a 6-3 over the Pierre Trappers at Hyde Stadium that gave Souris Valley a two-games-to-none lead in the best-of-five Expedition League Championship Series.

Jake Barlow doubled in the first run.  Brent Harmon knocked in the second with an infield hit.  Erick Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to give Souris Valley a 3-0 lead, then an error by Trappers second baseman Connor Bendeck allowed two runs to score.

Noah McCreary tripled in two runs for the Trappers in the home fifth.  Souris Valley scored in their sixth before Cy Probst had an RBI single in the Pierre sixth.

The Trappers had two men on with two out in the bottom of the eighth and Probst up as the tying run, but he struck out to end Pierre’s last threat.

Travis Dewyer struck out seven in seven innings for the win for Souris Valley.  Casey Kostrzewa took the loss for the Trappers.

Pierre must win Saturday at Hyde Stadium to keep the series going.  Coverage will begin at 6:20 on The Voice of the Trappers, River 92.7 and at the River 92.7 page at the DRG News app and drgnews.com.
