OXFORD — The Egg Bowl has arrived.
Ole Miss football and Lane Kiffin are looking to score a third consecutive victory in this rivalry contest against Mississippi State (7-4, 3-4), while Bulldogs coach Mike Leach is looking for his first win since arriving in Starkville.
The Rebels (8-3, 4-3) enter this game coming off arguably their worst performance in the past two seasons, suffering a 42-27 defeat at Arkansas. Ole Miss trailed 35-6 at halftime of that game in Fayetteville before saving face with a solid fourth quarter. In that game, Kiffin’s offense became the first FBS unit since 2000 to achieve 700 yards total offense and be held under 30 points.
Mississippi State, comparatively, had a bit of a tune-up last Saturday. Leach and the Bulldogs easily coasted by an FCS foe in East Tennessee State. Will Rogers threw for 301 yards and five touchdowns in that game before giving way to a pair of backups.
