SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A downtown Sioux Falls brewery is getting a jump on fall with its take on a world-famous festival.
The steins are lined up and ready to go for Oktoberfest at Remedy Brewing Company.
“It’s the biggest party of the year that we throw and it’s kind of a celebration of an awesome summer that we’ve had down here. It’s the eighth one going now and every year seems to get a little bit better,” Remedy Brewing Company co-founder Tyler Jepperson said.
Remedy will share the spotlight during the Bierfest portion of Oktoberfest. A $45 ticket will give you access to beer tastings from 15 local breweries.
“It’s about more than just us. Yes, we’re obviously hosting it and it’s our passion but this is a celebration of downtown and the energy and kind of the topping off a fantastic summer that we’ve seen come and go,” Jepperson said.
The event will also feature a tradition from the former Germanfest in Sioux Falls, dachshund races.
“It just adds another element of entertainment and fun and just kind of the vibe for the day,” Jepperson said.
“We’re hoping for 40 dogs, so we’ll have several heats of races to determine who’s the actual fastest dog in Oktoberfest,” Dakota Dachshund Rescue’s Rodger Lacy said.
Dakota Dachshund Rescue is organizing the races and doggy costume contest inside Remedy’s Pickleball facility. DDR plans to have 20-25 adoptable dogs on hand at Oktoberfest.
“We’ll have them in X pens and the foster parents will be with them walking around and showing people, letting them hug the dogs and pet the dogs. It’s like a gigantic meet and greet for us,” Lacy said.
If dogs aren’t your thing, Jepperson suggests pumpkin bowling, stein holding, and axe throwing. It’s an event with something for everyone.
“I think it’s just all of it, the food, the environment, it’s really hard to describe the energy without partaking in it so I encourage everyone to come down,” Jepperson said.
Oktoberfest is Saturday at Remedy Brewing Company at 8th & Railroad in Sioux Falls. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. It’s free to attend, though the Bierfest portion of the event does require a $45 ticket and runs from noon until 3:00. The dachshund meet & greet also starts at noon.
