A man who allegedly shot a woman in Pueblo on Wednesday was shot and killed by police after he fired shots at officers, police said.

It was the second police shooting in the city on consecutive days and the third in four days.

The Wednesday incident unfolded at about 3:20 p.m. when officers responded to a shooting near Fountain Creek, police said in a news release. Officers found a woman who had been shoot on a dirt road about 300 yards east of the 4500 block of Dillon Drive.

A man suspected in the shooting was spotted about 400 yards south of the scene and officers drove toward him in their patrol car when the suspect opened fire, police said. One round shattered the passenger side window of patrol car, injuring an officer. Two officers returned fire, shooting the suspect who died at the scene.

The woman was taken to a local hospital. Both officers suffered minor injuries in the incident.

The 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Team, led by the Colorado State Patrol and Colorado Bureau of Investigation, is handling the police shooting investigation. The officers are on administrative leave per department protocol.

On Tuesday, police fired shots at a moving vehicle, which had just been carjacked from a 70-year-old victim, after shots were fired from inside the stolen vehicle at pursuing officers, police said. Two suspects were taken to a local hospital.

On Sunday, officers encountered a man wearing a tactical vest who was armed with several guns, police said.

The man, who reportedly was trying to stop vehicle in the area of 2700 block of Sixth Avenue, raised a weapon at officers and he was fatally shot by an officer, according to police.
