The Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers faced off at SoFi Stadium on Sunday. The Titans were coming off of their second win of the season against the New England Patriots and looking to build on that win. The Chargers’ season has been much better than the Titans’, so they wanted to keep that momentum going.
Alas, only one team can win and the Titans simply didn’t have enough to compete with the Chargers in Week 10, losing 27-17.
Will Levis returned to the starting lineup and while he looked better than he has all season, there is still a lot of work to do. Some of that work involves improving the offensive line so Levis doesn’t take seven sacks in a game. Which is what happened on Sunday.
Let’s take a look at the offensive, defensive and special teams snap counts from the Titans’ loss to the Chargers and analyze how it impacted the game.
Offensive snaps: 54
Defensive snaps: 59
Special teams snaps: 26
Brian Callahan doesn’t like to rotate his players often. Since offensive linemen are hard to come by in Tennessee these days, it’s no surprise that five linemen played every single offensive snap on Sunday. We did see some rotation at right tackle, but maybe he should have swapped out JC Latham at some point to avoid the disastrous fourth quarter drive that sealed the Titans’ fate.
On defense, only three players played all of the snaps: Jack Gibbens, Kenneth Murray Jr., and Amani Hooker. Those three have been healthy this season, but if the Titans want to keep them that way, they should probably take breaks.
Given how close the game was until the fourth quarter, we won’t give Callahan too hard of a time about rotation. But he needs to start making changes because these players are tiring out and it shows in a more detrimental effect each week.
