A gunman in a black car fired multiple shots in a busy area of downtown Denver around the time bars close early Saturday morning and escaped police pursuit, according to Denver police.

Nobody was injured in the gunfire at 1:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of 15th Street, despite the presence of numerous people in the area near Larimer Square, Denver police said in a news release Saturday.

A uniformed, off-duty Denver police officer working security at a nearby nightclub fired at the gunman, but it was unclear whether the gunman was injured. On-duty officers stationed in a police car at 15th and Larimer streets attempted to pursue the black sedan, but the car fled at “a high rate of speed,” according to the news release.
