PERU, Ind. — At least one suspect has been shot by police in Peru, authorities confirm.
According to state police and local law enforcement, a shootout occurred on Tuesday morning in the 1600 block of State Road 19 involving police officers and at least one suspect. Preliminary information suggests the shooting happened at a mobile home park.
No police officers have been harmed but one suspect was shot. The injured suspect’s condition isn’t known at this time. The suspect has been transported to a hospital.
Authorities confirm the situation is still ongoing and that another suspect, or suspects, may be barricaded inside a residence. This suspect may also be armed, police said.
Authorities said a search is also being conducted in a nearby wooded area where suspects could be hiding.
At this time, no further information has been released as the investigation is active and ongoing.
