SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Travel South Dakota said the Lincoln High School Marching Band will be representing the school and the state this year at Thursday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day.
The state’s tourism department has not had a float in the Macy’s parade since 2021, said Katlyn Svendsen of Travel South Dakota.
In 2022, Travel South Dakota said the South Dakota State University Pride marching band would represent the university and the state.
The Mount Rushmore American Pride float participated in the parade in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
The parade of 2019 marked the 10th consecutive year in the parade.
Country music star Chris Young was announced as the talent on the float.
According to a Dec. 24, 2019, KELOLAND News story, the parade entry fee was $240,000 in 2019.
The entry fee and related costs had hovered around $150,000 to $200,000 from 2010 until 2019.
Manheim Steamroller and entry costs in 2010 were $155,000. The 2011 entry fee and pop singer Neil Diamond, also cost $155,000. The cost in 2012 increased to $205,000 for Don McLean. It cost $180,000 in 2013 with the band The Summer Set, and $205,00 in 2014 with NEEDTOBREATHE.
The cost stayed above $200,000 from 2015-2019. In 2015 it was $205,000 with Mercy Me. The cost was $230,000 in 2016 and 2017 for Ben Rector and then Smokey Robinson. Kane Brown was on the float in 2018 with a total cost of $233,000.
