SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The name of the 38-year-old man who died in a shooting Thursday in eastern Sioux Falls has been released by authorities.
According to the Sioux Falls Police Department Capt. Michael Colwill, Michael Christopher McDaniel of Sioux Falls died from a single gunshot wound in the leg. Colwill said police believe the bullet hit a major artery and McDaniel died from losing too much blood.
Police are waiting on an autopsy to confirm the number of gunshot wounds and cause of death.
Colwill said the suspect and victim knew each other. Police have a person of interest but no arrest has been made as of 10:30 a.m. Friday.
“We have recovered the firearm we believe was used,” Colwill said. “We believe this is an isolated incident.”
Colwill said the shooting took place inside an apartment nearby the location of 11th Street and Sneve Avenue, just behind Eastway Bowl in eastern Sioux Falls.
Colwill said police are still in the early stages of the investigation and continue to interview witnesses and process evidence.
