Callanwolde Fine Arts Center has announced the artists who will perform in the 2022 Jazz on the Lawn Concert Series. The concerts will kick off August 26 with Samara Joy and tickets will go on sale June 24.

Joy is a New York City-based jazz singer who won the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and is currently at work on her first album.

Smooth jazz icon Bob Baldwin, an Atlanta hometown favorite, returns to Callanwolde for a September 9 concert.

On September 23, the featured band will be Eddie Lopez Orquesta Macuba.

Atlanta pianist Joe Alterman will perform October 7 with vocalist Karla Harris.

The series closes October 21 with another local favorite, Joe Gransden’s Big Band.

Georgia Writers’ Author of the Year Awards

Georgia Writers has announced the winners of the 58th annual Georgia Author of the Year Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Awards to novelist and poet Clarence Major and the late Kamilah Aisha Moon.

Major is the author Dirty Bird Blues, Such Was The Season and Painted Turtle: Woman With Guitar. He has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Harvard Review and other publications. He is also the author of 16 collections of poetry and is a Fulbright scholar.

Moon, who died last year, was the author of Starshine & Clay and She Has A Name. Her poems and essays were published in such publications as The Harvard Review, Oxford American, PBS Newshour and Buzzfeed.
