New York Mayor Eric Adams starts average work day at 7:57 a.m.

Mayor Adams, a night owl who enjoys touring the city’s clubs, has said, “If you’re going to hang out with the boys at night, you’ve got to get up with the men in the morning.”

And after winning last year’s Democratic mayoral primary, he took a rare shot at his ally, the late-rising then-Mayor Bill de Blasio, telling hotel workers that he believed they wanted a mayor who “gets up the same time you get up.”

Detailed daily schedules from Adams’ first six months in office appear to confirm that the new mayor is getting to the city’s business earlier in the day than his predecessor did.

On average, Adams clocked in around 7:57 a.m. on weekdays during the first half of the year, according to an analysis of the schedules, which were obtained by the Daily News through a Freedom of Information request and previously published by City & State.

Fabien Levy, an Adams spokesman, said texts from the mayor often begin to come in much earlier than 8 a.m.

In 2019, an analysis of de Blasio’s work schedules indicated he started his average workday at 10:11 a.m. the previous year, a 52-minute regression from in 2014, his first year in the post.

The new analysis is based on the first item on each of Adams’ daily schedules. The schedules are blinkered, but reflect the most complete accounting of the mayor’s daily agenda so far made public.

The analysis excludes weekends, though Adams did not take a day off after Jan. 4, the first day for which the schedules are publicly available.

De Blasio, who acknowledged he was not a morning person, started his average workday at roughly 9 a.m. during his first month in office before backsliding, according to the analysis of his schedules.

He maintained that he began his work around 6 a.m., and that his calendar included only formal meetings and calls.

De Blasio’s predecessor, Mike Bloomberg, was known to typically arrive at City Hall by around 7:30 a.m. and to leave the city on weekends.
