Emmett
Looking to Levantine cuisine, as well as French, Italian, North African, and Middle Eastern flavors, Evan Snyder and Julian van der Tak opened Emmett on January 28. It’s been a long time coming for the team who had been doing pop-ups (everywhere from South Philly Barbacoa to Little Fish) while searching for a space for over a year. Currently, a $95-per-person tasting menu lists dishes like koginut squash toast, barbecue lamb dolma, and duck with plum and date jus. Wine, cocktails, and mocktails are available. 161 West Girard Street, Kensington
Liberty Kitchen
Liberty Kitchen, the Fishtown deli that went viral for its chicken Caesar hoagies last year, also known for its tomato pie, has opened a third outpost. This location, now in Chestnut Hill, is stationed inside of Market at the Fareway. 8221 Germantown Avenue, Chestnut Hill
New Dim Sum Kingdom
Chinatown has a new dim sum option with New Dim Sum Kingdom. The menu keeps to classics, including steamed barbecue pork buns and soup dumplings. 1020 Race Street, Chinatown
Baby Kusina’s and Market
It’s been a long time coming for Tam Dang and Raquel Villanueva Dang, who first launched a pop-up in 2018 under the name Tita Emmie’s. Baby’s in Brewerytown is the culmination of those efforts, as a Filipino cafe and market — a similar format to upstate New York’s Harana Market. The menu keeps to daytime offers with pastries (yes to ube croissants!) and breakfast bowls, plus coffee by hometown heroes Càphê Roasters. It opened on February 8 and lines immediately followed. A nighttime supper club is to follow. 2816 West Girard Avenue, Brewerytown
Desforra Cafe
Desforra Cafe opened sometime in January, serving specialty coffee, alongside tacos, and Portuguese steak sandwiches. 1149 N. 3rd Street, Northern Liberties
The Corner
A new food truck has rolled into town. According to Redditors, this new spot specializes in doner kebab alongside salmon cheesesteaks and hot chicken. Passyunk Avenue, West of Broad, South Philadelphia
Ringo Coffee and Donuts
The team behind the Montreal-style bagel shop Spread Bagelry has opened an offshoot concept focused on doughnuts. Ringo serves the fried doughs (in flavors like buttermilk pancake and honey cornbread), alongside coffee. Additionally, there’s a doughnut sandwich. Ringo opened in early February. 2001 Federal Street, Point Breeze
