Geely luxury brand Lynk & Co. is bringing a new EV option to the U.S. with their first ever EV for sale. Lynk & Co. currently makes a hybrid vehicle called the 01, which is a plug-in hybrid compact SUV. The new vehicle for the automaker that will make the company’s U.S. debut will be Lynk & Co.’s first all-electric vehicle.

Geely bought out Swedish automaker Volvo Group in 2016 and formed Lynk & Co. as part of a stable of brands meant to appeal to the Chinese market and to the U.S. and Middle East as well as Europe. The idea is to build increasingly modular and efficient high-tech vehicles in an auto industry that collaborates to hurry the creation of a wide array of EVs that will curb climate emissions.

Additionally, the company struggled to form a headquarters in the U.S. in San Francisco over the last few years. They were waiting on setting up their subscription-based business model, in which users pay a flat fee to cover maintenance, insurance and road tax. The automaker is betting on modern EVs with zero emissions, plus a modern subscription-based ownership model to disrupt the competitive automotive market.

Lynk & Co has been one of the most successful local brands in its native country, delivering over 660,000 models since launching its first model. The 01 crossover was built on Volvo’s modular architecture chassis. Lynk & Co’s EV will be based on the same SEA platform from Geely that sits under the Zeekr 001 and new Polestar 4.
More appealing than the option to subscribe is the flexibility of options Lynk & Co. is offering up front to customers, including a no-commitment subscription-based lease option, purchase with four-year warranty or even rental. We expect these models will prove themselves more or less popular and get weeded out of the company’s offerings eventually, but for now it’s awesome to see flexible usage and ownership options for such an expensive, but critical piece of customers’ lives.
