SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A local organization is doing what it can to save the soles… of your shoes.

We Care Pedicabs has been operating since the beginning of June, offering both scenic and point to point rides downtown.

“The pedicab services is our way of offering a service with as little of a carbon footprint as we can to help enrich the lives of downtown Sioux Falls, help people get around in style,” business manager of We Care Services, Cliff Richmond said.

Proceeds from the rides benefit Hurdle Life Coach Foundation.

“We’re coaching a mentorship program that supports teenagers that have gone through adversity in their life and adults who are looking to navigate life post incarceration,” founder of Hurdle Life Coach Foundation & We Care Services, Terry Liggins said.

Not only is the We Care Pedicabs meant to help enhance downtown, but it is also meant to help the Hurdle Life participants find meaningful job opportunities.

“What happens a lot of times is people kind of have idle hands and their minds and thoughts are taking them, shifting them to do things that really lead to negative consequences. Something like being an operator at We Care or a business manager like our friend Cliff, this keeps them occupied. It brings dignity, worth and esteem,” Liggins said.

“Being given the opportunity as business manager is such an honor and for people like myself who are justice impacted, these opportunities are not a dime a dozen,” Richmond said.

Giving people a scenic way to help others in the community.

“We do have fares that if you ask us, we’ll let you know. ‘Hey, this is what we suggest.’ But honestly, people give what’s in their heart and it’s all going into something that’s bigger than we are,” Richmond said.
