Needed rain moves out

It took until October 31st, but #Indianapolis got some small beneficial rains to cap off the dry month. Until today, October 2024 was the running as the driest of all-time and the driest in 61 years. Thanks to The Circle City’s 0.5″ of rain today, it was more than four times the month-to-date observed rain. It also moved October 2024 out of the driest of all time. This month will instead finish as the 8th driest October on record.

It also was the fourth consecutive Halloween with rain in Indianapolis and the 74th holiday overall. Luckily, the weather is very different compared to a year ago when a trace of snowfall occurred. Rain moves out for trick-or-treaters Thursday evening and sets the stage for a cooler and sunny couple of days to open November.

A nice few days ahead to open November

In the wake of a cold front, Friday morning starts chilly with lows around 40°. Have the sunglasses handy because skies will be abundantly sunny once again. Expect a seasonable day with highs around 60°. After this, temperatures will rise again into the weekend and next week.

Temperature Departures From Normal Friday

Our next rain chances arrive on Sunday and continue through Election Day. Sunday’s activity will be scattered and mainly contained northwest. The most widespread rain will be on Monday and Tuesday. Some decent rainfall potential exists given the more moisture content present along with the warmer temperatures. Forecast highs Sunday-Tuesday are in the low-to-mid 70s, normal for late September or early October.
