WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. — Nearly 6,000 gallons of water were spilled during a semi crash in Wayne County on Saturday.
In a Facebook post, the Webster Township Fire Department confirmed its crews were dispatched to State Road 38 around 5:30 p.m. to investigate a semi crash. When WTFD personnel arrived at the scene, they confirmed a semi with a single tanker trailer attached to it had overturned and ended up in a ditch off of State Road 38.
WTFD requested assistance from the Williamsburg Fire Department’s hazmat team because first responders didn’t know exactly what had spilled out of the semi’s trailer when they arrived in the area.
Emergency personnel ultimately determined the semi was hauling fresh water. A notification from the Indiana Department of Transportation indicates more than 5,800 gallons of water were spilled when the semi crashed.
INDOT reported that State Road 38 was closed in both directions while crews cleaned up and investigated the crash. Per INDOT, the roadway reopened at approximately 9:49 p.m. — more than four hours after crews first responded to the scene.
As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the crash had been made available.
