MANILA, Philippines—Despite being eliminated from the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament, Arellano ended its campaign with a dominant win over Emilio Aguinaldo College 25-21, 25-23, 25-21, at San Andres Complex on Tuesday.
Last season’s finalists ended this season with a 5-4 record but it was not enough to power them into the Final Four conversation.
In an hour and 30 minutes of action, Laika Tudlasan powered the Lady Chiefs with a 14-point outing while Nicole Sasuman also tallied 11 built on two blocks for the victory.
Krizzia Reyes registered 20 markers but it was not enough to give EAC its season win as it finished the season with a 1-8 card in the bottom of the standings along with Jose Rizal University and San Beda, which also have identical records.
The Chiefs also snagged a victory of their own after outlasting the Generals in five sets, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17, 17-25, 15-13, to seal the second seed in the men’s tournament behind undefeated Perpetual Help.
Anfernee Curamen and Kim Tan survived the five-setter fatigue with 15 markers each for Arellano. Jethro Cabillan proved to be the Chiefs’ defensive anchor on the floor with 14 points built on seven huge blocks.
Arellano will be awaiting the winner of the San Beda and EAC bout in the men’s volleyball stepladder semifinals.
The Altas are already assured of a Finals ticket after finishing the elimination round with an unblemished record after nine games.
The stepladder semis will be taking place on Sunday at San Juan Arena.
