SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Brandon man received a severe leg injury after being hit by a driver making an illegal turn in Sioux Falls Sunday afternoon.

According to Sioux Falls Police spokesman Sam Clemens, the crash happened at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at Benson and Northview Ave., which is the entrance/exit to a farm supply store.

Clemens says a 42-year-old Sioux Falls man was driving a minivan north from the store on Northview Ave.

When this stretch of Northview Ave. reaches Benson Rd., drivers can only enter the eastbound lane of Benson Rd. Despite this, Clemens said the minivan driver attempted to make an illegal left turn onto Benson Rd, where he collided with a 34-year-old Brandon man riding east along Benson Rd.

Those seeking to turn left onto Benson Rd. leaving the store must do so from Martindale Rd. on the east side of the property.

Clemens said the motorcyclist received a severe leg injury and was transported via ambulance to a hospital. He did not have an update on the man’s condition.

The minivan driver, Clemens said, was cited for careless driving, driving with a revoked license and having an open container in the vehicle.
