JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. — A motorcyclist was critically injured following a police pursuit Monday evening in Whiteland.
Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 6:39 p.m. to Whiteland Road at Interstate 65 to assist Whiteland Police Department officers who were responding to reports of a serious crash.
JCSO said officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle that was traveling east on Whiteland Road from the area of Bob Glidden Boulevard. The motorcyclist allegedly ignored these commands and began to flee from law enforcement.
At one point during the pursuit, the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed as it approached the overpass of Interstate 65. It was at this location that an uninvolved vehicle slowed down to yield to authorities before it pulled into the shoulder near the beginning of the overpass.
It was at that moment that the fleeing motorcyclist reportedly struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle.
The motorcyclist was transported to Methodist Hospital and was last reported to be in critical condition, according to JCSO. The driver of the other vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
