LENNOX, S.D. (KELO) —With school right around the corner, many families may start to worry about how they’re going to pay for school lunches.

While Lennox School may be empty right now, soon it will be filled with children– some of whom can’t afford school lunches. Because of this, the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club decided to raise money to help buy them lunch.

“Once a month we pick an organization that we want to help out, and then we will have games, food, we’ll have, like lemonade, drinks, stuff that people can come in. It’s all free will donation,” U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club, Tyler “Burnout” Lau said.

“Our main role as a club is to help local veterans in need. And sometimes helping local veterans is seen as taking a step beyond that and helping the children of the veterans that we have,” U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club, Dustin “Pigpen” Lau said.

The U.S. Military Vets Club has raised over 1600 dollars for the Lenox School lunch debt, in hopes that no kids have to experience what some of the members have experienced.

“There were times that I would be sitting there eating food or the sack lunch that they’d give you, and it’s just barely enough to get you by where everyone else was sitting there eating their full meal, getting full,” Tyler said.

As the club members do their part to keep all bellies full in the Lennox School District.

“It’s one of those things that the children have no control on. You can’t control what you have for money in the bank,” Dustin said.

“And it just felt that I was being looked at differently because we couldn’t afford lunch and we just don’t want a kid to feel that,” Tyler said.

The club is presenting a check for $1,650 to the school on Saturday.
