SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Charges are now filed in two states on the multi-state crime spree case that involved two Sioux Falls men facing charges from stolen cars and child abuse.
Authorities in Weld County, Colorado have filed arrest warrants for the arrest of 20-year-old Marquise Spotted Eagle. He’s accused of several crimes including child abuse, a weapons charge and felony assault.
The charges stem from Monday, when a Sioux Falls girl told police in Colorado that Spotted Eagle and Datavion Taylor left her along the side of a highway. She claimed she’d been assaulted and that the men still had her 13-year-old friend in their car.
Hours later, authorities in Nebraska arrested the men.
They’re being held in a central Nebraska jail, where they face several charges including child endangerment, possessing a stolen vehicle and possessing a stolen gun.
At this point there are no charges in South Dakota, but there could be in the future.
Sioux Falls Police tell us they weren’t aware of any missing or runaway girls, until one of the girls talked to police in Colorado.
But, they were aware of a stolen car and gun.
Police say someone left their car running outside a business at 14th and Minnesota, on the edge of downtown, on Saturday.
Someone stole the car, which also had a gun inside.
At this point, police aren’t sure if the two men took the vehicle or if they were just driving it when they left the state.
