Monsoon rains created havoc for drivers near Los Lunas, New Mexico, on Saturday, as New Mexico highway 6 has been closed due to flash flooding caused by rainfall in the area.Los Lunas Fire Chief John Gabaldon confirmed to sister station KOAT that two sections of the highway were washed out or underwater.One section of the road completely gave out, sinking a car. Dustin and Sadie Parker who were in that car say they almost lost their lives.“The car just died out. It felt like it sunk in and right when it sunk in an orange cone crossed in front of us and the road filled up with water. I just tried to get my son out and my wife out,” said Dustin Parker.Sadie Parker said, “definitely panic starts setting in once your little one starts seeing the water rising and all he’s screaming is ‘I don’t want to swim, I don’t want to swim.’”The Parkers say a couple of road workers swam into the water to pull their son out of the car. “They definitely saved some lives. I’m grateful,” Sadie said.During KOAT’s interview with the Parkers, the man who pulled their son out of the drowning car Jeremy Jackson, drove by.“They said ‘we have a kid in here’ and instinct took over. I have kids of my own and I don’t want any kid to be in that situation. Never in all of my years have I seen anything like what happened today,” said Jackson.
