SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Summer is starting to wind down but Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation is making the most of the time that remains.

Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation is kicking off the week at McKennan Park with another installment of Mondays at McKennan.

“Great opportunity for all ages to come out and hear some great music,” Recreation Program Coordinator Eric Saathoff said.

Eric Saathoff is a recreation program coordinator and says Mondays at McKennan is eight weeks of free concerts and no two are the same.

“Tonight in McKennan Park there will be a Country band, last week we had a 50’s & 60’s band, we’ve got a funk band coming up in the next few weeks, whole bunch of different bands for people to enjoy,” Saathoff said.

On Tuesday, children and families take center stage, with Kids Nite in the Park.

“We’ve been holding them for almost two decades now here in McKennan Park, so a great opportunity for parents and their kids to come out and enjoy the park,” Saathoff said.

“The park puts on a big party. We’re going to have food trucks, we’ll have inflatables, there’s going to be all kinds of games that kids can play to win snacks or treats, candy,” Storyland Children’s Theatre Director Michael Smith said.

Michael Smith is the director of Storyland Children’s Theatre, which will be performing its final play of the summer this week, including a show during Kids Nite in the Park.

“Seen all these kids and their families coming for seven weeks and you get to know them and it’s a good routine, and then it’s just done. It’s a little bittersweet,” Smith said.

Kids Nite in the Park will also include a Kids Art Show & Sale, including paintings, drawings, crafts, and jewelry.

“We know that there’s a lot of talent out there with younger kids so we wanted to give them a chance to showcase that and it has continued to grow. Tomorrow night, we’re going to have around thirty vendors, and a lot of times the kids will sell out so make sure if you’re coming to the event you stop by that,” Saathoff said.

The Men in Black band will perform tonight at McKennan Park. The free concert starts at 7:00 under the bandshell. Kids Nite in the Park and the Kids Art Show & Sale are Tuesday night from 6:00 until 8:00.
