The Mississippi Women Infants and Children program has added additional infant formula products and package sizes to the program’s approved product list, the Mississippi State Department of Health announced in a press statement Wednesday morning.
“The Mississippi WIC program remains concerned about the national infant formula shortage and is taking the following action to ensure that its participants continue to receive all supplemental WIC benefits,” the MSHD press release states. “WIC participants who are unable to find their prescribed medical formula in stores may contact their WIC clinic to quickly change to an alternate formula that is currently available.”
The added products are currently available through Aug. 31, the press release states.
The nation is facing a baby formula shortage due to supply chain issues and product recall by a major baby formula manufacturer earlier this year.
WIC program participants are also now able to return recalled products directly to the location of purchase for cash back, store credit or a similar product, according to the press statement.
A full list of recalled baby formula products can be found here.
“The Mississippi WIC Program does not have a reserve of infant formula,” said Jameshyia Ballard, director of vendor management. “Nationwide, manufactures’ shortages mean we, too, are experiencing constraints in our ability to order medical formula. These new options for WIC participants are being used to help meet the needs of families .”
