Here are the Clarion Ledger’s Super 10 high school softball rankings for the week of May 9. The teams were picked by the sports staff, softball minds and coaches around the state.
1. Neshoba Central (26-3) – The Rockets dropped Game 1 of their MHSAA Class 5A quarterfinals matchup against Saltillo. Neshoba Central responded with a 9-2 victory and 13-6 victory in Game 3. Five players had two RBIs in Monday’s victories.
2. Northwest Rankin (25-5) – The Cougars swept their two-game series against Gulfport to advance to the MHSAA Class 6A semifinals. Junior Mollie Swilley went 3-for-4 with a double an two RBIs in Saturday’s 8-3 victory.
3. Kosciusko (28-3) – The Whippets continued to cruise through the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs with a sweep of Pontotoc in the quarterfinals. Sophomore Anna Grace Whitehead allowed five hits with seven strikeouts in Saturday’s 4-2 victory.
4. Hernando (26-8) – The Tigers defeated Germantown 4-3 in Game 3 Monday to advance to the MHSAA Class 6A semifinals. Senior Janna Shaw had a two-run home run to help close out the series.

5. Petal (22-3) – The Panthers needed a Game 3 victory after losing to Ocean Springs 1-0 Saturday. Petal responded with a 5-4 victory to advance to the MHSAA Class 6A semifinals. Senior Kinley Hogue led the Panthers with a double and two RBIs.
6. Sumrall (25-7) – The Bobcats advanced to the MHSAA Class 4A semifinals behind two wins over Newton County. Sophomore Ashlyn Burkhalter had a complete game with one strikeout in Saturday’s 3-1 victory.
7. East Union (24-3) – East Union extended its 21-game winning streak with a two-game sweep of Eupora to advance to the MHSAA Class 2A semifinals. Josie Mae Bell and Lucy Cochran combined to hold Eupora to three hits in Friday’s 4-0 victory.
8. DeSoto Central (21-7) – The Jaguars swept South Panola and advanced to the MHSAA Class 6A semifinals against Hernando. Senior Arin Dale went 2-for-4 in Saturday’s 3-2 victory.

9. East Webster (25-4) – The Wolverines extended their 17-game winning streak after sweeping Pine Grove in the MHSAA Class 2A quarterfinals.
10. Kossuth (21-7) – The Aggies defeated Nettleton 9-2 and 13-0 to advance into the MHSAA Class 3A semifinals. Kossuth has won four of its last five games.
