INDIANAPOLIS — Recently crowned Miss Indiana Teen 2024 is trying to use her position to raise awareness for a good cause.

Bella Bauer, 18, launched “The Purple Project” to raise awareness for epilepsy.

Bauer was diagnosed with epilepsy in 5th grade.

She said having her first grand mal seizure in front of her classmates was an experience that changed her life. And now, she’s taken her mission to the Indiana Statehouse in an effort to help craft a new law that aims to make sure seizure first aid is implemented in all schools across Indiana.

“Currently, there’s no law in the State of Indiana protecting children if they were to have a seizure in school,” Bauer said. “Teachers and staff aren’t required to undergo any seizure and safety training, and I’m advocating for that to be changed.”

Bauer will be attending Purdue University in the fall. She’s already made the school dance team and plans to study physical therapy.
