SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A 21-year-old Wagner man is now on the road to recovery after crashing head on with a semi-truck.

Skyler Dossett is grateful to be alive, after a life-threatening crash on June 28th.

“I just remember driving for a while and all I remember was waking up in the hospital,” head on crash with semi-truck, Skyler Dossett said.

“And I woke up to the phone call that Skyler was involved in a horrible accident and care flighted and got here as quick as I could,” Skyler’s stepmother, Kristina Miller said.

Dossett had a head-on collision with a semi-truck, which totaled his car. While the damage was bad, Dossett and his family are grateful it wasn’t worse.

“I broke the little bone in my arm, broke my femur, battered my kneecap, and then broke a little bone in my foot,” Dossett said.

“Skyler is definitely grasping the fact that it’s a miracle that he’s here,” Miller said.

But the road to recovery is going to be a long one.

“He’s grasping the fact that he used to take advantage or take for granted that he could just swing his legs out of bed and get up in the morning and not know it’s going to be a little bit harder. And his new normal is going to be different. He’s not going to be able to be quite as active as he was. But Skyler is determined to get better and get as close to back to normal as possible,” Miller said.

Dossett’s family says they appreciate all the love and support people are sending their way.
