RUPERT, Idaho (KIFI) – Despite a 2nd half comeback, the Thunder Ridge Titans didn’t have enough to stay with Minico Friday night, as the Spartans picked up a season-opening 40-21 win over the Titans.
Minico held the lead for the entire game, taking an early 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter that was highlighted by a Carson Wayment pass to JT Garza for a long touchdown.
Thunder Ridge wouldn’t back down, though. A Carter Koplin rushing touchdown closed the gap to seven, but Minico responded with 13 unanswered points for a 27-7 lead.
Titans stormed back again with a pair of touchdowns to draw within six, but it wasn’t enough on this night. The Spartans added a pair of insurance scores for the 40-21 victory.
Next up, Thunder Ridge takes on Idaho Falls next Friday at Ravsten Stadium with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
