SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) —Good morning KELOLAND! We are starting the day warmer than yesterday and that will be the trend the next couple of days.
Afternoon highs will reach the 30s and 40s across the region, with the warmest weather likely in far western SD. Winds are increasing from the west and southwest today as well. Expect temperatures to hold in the 20s tonight, with another mild day tomorrow. Rapid City could hit 50, with Sioux Falls closer to 40.
Temperatures will still be mild to start Friday, but stronger NW winds during the day will gust over 40 mph in the afternoon across much of the region. That will mark the start of much colder weather for the weekend.
Our wind chill forecast is already cold on Saturday, but conditions on Sunday and Monday will get worse. Expect to see headlines for the cold and wind chills during that time, with numbers below -20, possibly down to -30 or lower.
While we are not forecasting a lot of snow with this front, some pockets of snow showers and flurries are possible. Most of that would likely occur Friday night into Saturday. This cold weather pattern will reach all the way to the gulf coast through Monday, but the good news is we do expect a rebound starting in KELOLAND by Tuesday.
Here are the details of the forecast.
