SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —A mild start to the weekend is forecast across KELOLAND as temperatures stay at or above normal for this time of the year.

We have been dealing with fog this morning across portions of eastern KELOLAND. A Dense Fog Advisory is set to expire by mid morning for the areas shaded in gray east of the James Valley.

Otherwise, expect some high clouds at times today with temperatures recovering to 50s through much of the region. A southeast breeze will slowly strengthen from west to east. Expect a steady breeze from the south tomorrow morning ahead of a cold front. That front will arrive in the James River Valley by early afternoon, with a brisk NW wind behind it in western SD. The southeast, including Sioux Falls, will stay on the warmer side much of the day with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

We expect fair conditions on Sunday with lighter winds and highs in the 40s to lower 50s. By Monday, all eyes will be on the storm track of the next system approaching us from the south. We think some of the rain will arrive by late Monday afternoon or evening, with better chances of precipitation by Tuesday. Initially, this system will warm enough for all rain. Also, while there is better agreement on the storm track pulling the rain into eastern KELOLAND, we continue to see the AI (artificial intelligence) version of the Euro model showing the brunt of the storm impacting Iowa and Minnesota. Keep an eye on that trend this weekend.

You can see the broader perspective with the animation below. If this system slows down by Tuesday, we could entrain just enough cold air for some snow in parts of North and South Dakota. With northwest winds on Wednesday and Thursday, high temperatures may stay in the 30s.

Don’t get excited about big snow, but “some” snow is possible. Right now, it’s still about a 50/50 shot of a quick slushy coating of snow on the backside of the storm. It’s November, so we shouldn’t be surprise to see at least a chance of snow.

Here are the details of the forecast.
