Country music hitmaker and Academy of Country Music award-winner Mickey Gilley died at the age of 86 in Branson, Missouri from complications due to a recent hospitalization.
Gilley’s name and career were always associated with the “Urban Cowboy” movement of the 1980s, with a seven-decade career with big hits like “Room Full Of Roses,” “Stand By Me,” “A Headache Tomorrow,” “That’s All That Matters” and many others. Gilley had cameos in the box office monster “Urban Cowboy” starring John Travolta and Debra Winger that played out at Gilley’s famous nightclub in Pasadena, TX.
Gilley’s career included six ACM Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. and induction into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011. He was one of only a handful of artists to receive the Academy of Country Music’s Triple Crown Award.
