The leader of a local church is planning a “Men Who Care About Jackson” conference for 8:30 a.m. May 21 at Camp Garaywa in Clinton.
Joseph White pastor of Restoration Community Church in Jackson said his church is sponsoring the event because, “We do care about Jackson.”
Guest speakers are Jackson Police Chief James Davis and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.
“The idea for this event came from the constant shootings and infrastructure and a host of other things in the city,” White said. “The shootings are flooding the quality of life in Jackson and a group of men along with myself asked what can we do to fix these issues. Most of the crime in Jackson is done by black men and we believe it is a result of father less homes.”
Dennis Ayers Administrator of “Men Who Care About Jackson” said the men want to help the community by taking the first step in a spiritual direction.
“We have to take a look at the real picture. About 80% of murder victims in Jackson are young black men,” Ayers said. “Also per capita our city is the No. 1 city in murders. I believe men returning back to their original place in God is the right start which is a step-up. Although black men are leading in murders cases, the crimes aren’t just evolving around black men.”
